Barkley Sound

This transect was marked as being significant for salinity. Salinity in this area increases as we move closer to offshore.

Transect 2: 48.8115 N, 125 W; 48.7186 N, 125.677 W; 48.1847 N, 126.5976 W. The red points correspond with the three different stations where data was collected.

Why do we care about salinity?

Every organism needs certain requirements for salinity. Any fish can die if it gets too salty, or too fresh. They have complex organ systems that are suited to specific thresholds of salinity.

Salinity also affects the density of water, which in turn, can the circulation of ocean currents. The circulation of ocean currents can then affect a whole other slew of abiotic factors.
